About County Armagh
County Armagh is a county in Ulster, adjoining the southern shore of Lough Neagh. It is named from the county town Armagh; Ard Mhacha means "Macha's height", after Macha, a figure associated with Ulster and Armagh in Irish mythology.
About Counties
Counties are large administrative units established between the twelfth and seventeenth centuries. They shaped courts, taxation, land records, local government and identity, and they remain one of the most familiar ways to describe place in Ireland today.
