About Clonduff

Clonduff is a civil parish in County Down, mainly within Iveagh Upper, Lower Half, and covers 26 mapped townlands across about 21,241 acres. Its old church stood in Ballyaughian, one of the four old church-land townlands traditionally known as the four towns of Clonduff. The Irish form Cluain Daimh means meadow of the ox.

About Civil Parishes

Civil parishes are based on medieval ecclesiastical parishes, then became civil land units used for records, mapping, taxation and local reference. They do not necessarily match modern church parishes, but they remain useful for reading older documents and understanding townland groupings.
